What we like

  • LGBTQ+ and women-owned brand founded in Denver, CO
  • Secured a Shark Tank deal; prior Kickstarter campaign raised nearly 200k in 22 minutes
  • 300 lumens with 3 adjustable color temperatures controlled via free iOS and Android app
  • Removable battery pack swappable for up to 9 additional hours of runtime per charge
  • Adhesive installation leaves no wall damage; built-in level ensures straight placement

Watch out for

  • 9-hour battery life per charge limits all-day use without swapping the battery pack
  • 30-day return window requires original packaging to be retained
  • Full brightness and color-temperature controls require the Poplight app

What Poplight Is

Poplight was founded in Denver, Colorado by Rose and Caroline — a women-owned, LGBTQ+-owned brand that grew out of a very specific frustration: the choice between renting an apartment with dim, builder-grade lighting and drilling holes to mount proper sconces. Their answer was a USB-C rechargeable wall sconce that installs with 3M adhesive tape and no tools.

The brand’s story has an unusual validation point. Before Shark Tank, Rose and Caroline launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly 200k in 22 minutes — demand that caught enough attention to land them a deal on the show. The brand has since grown to light more than 5,000 homes. The Kickstarter and Shark Tank arc matters here not as brand mythology but as a signal: the product solved a real, unsolved problem for a large enough audience to generate that kind of immediate response.

How Poplight Works

The core mechanism is straightforward. Each Poplight unit ships with a 3M adhesive mounting pad, a built-in level for straight installation, the light unit itself, and a USB-C charging cord. Installation is four steps: peel, stick, check the level, press. No drilling, no wiring, no landlord permission required.

The rechargeable battery pack snaps out of the back of the unit. Charging takes place via USB-C, and the pack delivers up to 9 hours of runtime per charge. Poplight sells additional battery packs separately, so units can run continuously by swapping packs rather than waiting for a recharge.

Light control happens through the Poplight app (iOS and Android, free). The app provides:

  • Dimming — adjustable brightness up to 300 lumens
  • Three color temperatures — switchable between warm, neutral, and cool white
  • Sleep timer — scheduled auto-off
  • Group control — manage multiple units as a single zone when using a bundle

300 lumens positions Poplight firmly in the ambient lighting category. It is designed for the kind of soft glow that makes a bedroom or living room feel intentionally lit — not the directional brightness needed for reading fine print or working at a desk.

The Color Range

Poplight is available in multiple color finishes to suit different interior styles. Current options include Dusty Rose, Matte Black, Sage Green, Mushroom, and Marigold, among others — the full color lineup is on the brand’s website and expands periodically.

The Kid Safe Stick On Wall Lighting variant is designed specifically for nurseries and children’s rooms. It uses the same cordless, adhesive-mounted, USB-C rechargeable platform as the standard Poplight, adjusted for a children’s room context where cord-free installation is a meaningful safety benefit.

For households that want multiple units, the Custom Poplight Bundle lets buyers mix and match colors and quantity in a single order. Bundled units can be grouped and controlled together in the Poplight app, which makes them practical for lighting a room with two or three sconces that behave as a unified fixture.

Shipping, Returns & Warranty

Poplight backs the product with a lifetime guarantee — the brand will replace a Poplight unit that fails under normal use. The 30-day return window requires original packaging, so it is worth holding onto the box for the first month after purchase.

Shipping details and current delivery timelines are on the Poplight website. The brand ships to the United States; check the site for international availability.

Is Poplight Worth It vs. Alternatives

The most common alternative in the no-wire wall lighting category is the battery-operated puck light — the kind sold in three-packs at home goods stores. Puck lights are inexpensive and disposable, but they use AA batteries, have no app control, offer a single color temperature, and typically produce less than 150 lumens. The quality gap between a puck light and a Poplight is significant in terms of light output, aesthetics, and usability.

Plug-in wall sconces are the other comparison point. They deliver full-brightness, always-on light at a fixed color temperature and do not require recharging. The tradeoff is the power cord: a plug-in sconce needs a nearby outlet and either a visible cord along the wall or a cord cover kit to look intentional. For renters without a well-placed outlet, the cord problem alone may make a plug-in sconce impractical.

Poplight’s position is for people who want the look of a real wall sconce without the outlet constraint or the drilling. At 300 lumens with app dimming and three color temperatures, it delivers more control than a puck light and less commitment than a wired fixture. The limitation to keep in mind is that 300 lumens is ambient by design — it is the right tool for mood and atmosphere, not task work.
